Velocity/time exc problem, check my answers?
A home run is hit into the upper deck of a stadium. The baseball lands (it is descending when it lands) 60ft above the height from which it was hit. The ball left the bat with a speed of 85 mi/hr at an angle of 60 degrees above the horizontal (Ignore air resistance)
a) what is the speed of the ball when it lands?
I got -38.05m/s
b) How long was the ball in the air?
I got 7.25sec
c) What is the horizontal distance from home plate (where the ball was hit) to the point where the ball landed? Put your answer to feet.
I got 451.96 feet
d) How far (horizontally would it have gone if it had be allowed to fall back to the height it had been hit?
I got that it would go on forever because the velocity never changes
This is very similar to a problem asked by Erin about two hours before yours. Look at my answer there. The question asked about a ball hit up at 53 degrees
d) It can't go on rising then falling forever. You are asked how far it travelled horizontally when it gets back to the original height which will occur at a definite time.. Also the velocity does change.
