Can anyone tell me what it would cost to replace a rear main seal in a 1990 Chevy Blazer?
After parking it this afternoon for five or ten minutes, I noticed a small puddle of oil on the surface of the parking lot. Also, a "trail" of oil behind the puddle where it had dripped as I drove up. I just finished putting two quarts of oil in it. I've been told by my mechanic that it is the rear main seal. He, however, cannot do the job as he is not equipped to do so. Says I will have to take it to a transmission specialist such as Aamco or one of the others. Please, no wild guesses here. I need some accurate information. Thanks.
Help! I need to know how much this is going to set me back.
Also, where would be the best place to take it as far as workmanship and expense is concerned?
it would be in the several hundred dollar range.
it will be more depending of if its 4wd or not.
you didnt say fullsize or s10 blazer as well.
either way, the rear main seal for both is 1 piece.
which means after you pull the tranny and flywheel, there is a cover on the back of the block that has like 6 bolts holding it on, and that has your main seal.
its not like the old motors where the 1 half of the seal gets put into the block and the other in the oil pan.
the 1 piece rear mains came out in '86 or '87.
